Private Compound Wildcard Queries using Fully Homomorphic Encryption

چکیده
Fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) brings a paradigm shift in cryptographic engineering by enabling us to resolve various unsolved problems. Among them, this work solves the problem to design a private database query (PDQ) protocol that supports compound queries with wildcard conditions on encrypted databases using FHE. More precisely, we consider a setting where clients outsource an encrypted database using FHE to a remote server, and later request results of compound queries including a wildcard search condition–given a set of attribute values {A1, A2, . . . , An} and a search pattern W , retrieve a set of all attribute values Ai’s in which the pattern W occurs. To this end, we first develop an algorithm for testing whether an encrypted string contains an encrypted pattern without revealing any information of the pattern, taking auxiliary encryptions as additional inputs. Then, using this algorithm, we design PDQ protocols on encrypted databases, which support compound queries using wildcard search conditions. Finally, we demonstrate proof-of-concept implementation results of our protocols by exploiting single-instruction-multiple-data (SIMD) operations and multi-threading techniques.

Is Homomorphic Encryption the Holy Grail for Database Queries on Encrypted Data?
Homomorphic encryption has been used for supporting simple aggregations, numeric calculations on encrypted data as well as for private information retrieval. Recently, theoretical breakthroughs on homomorphic encryption resulted in fully homomorphic encryption, which is able to compute arbitrary functions on encrypted data. As a result, homomorphic encryption is generally believed to be the hol...
متن کاملPrivate Database Queries Using Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption
In a private database query system, a client issues queries to a database and obtains the results without learning anything else about the database and without the server learning the query. While previous work has yielded systems that can efficiently support disjunction queries, performing conjunction queries privately remains an open problem. In this work, we show that using a polynomial enco...
متن کاملHomomorphic Evaluation of Database Queries
Homomorphic encryption is an encryption method that enables computing over encrypted data. This has a wide range of real world ramifications such as being able to blindly compute a search result sent to a remote server without revealing its content. This paper discusses how database search queries can be made secure using a homomorphic encryption scheme. We propose a new database search techniq...
متن کاملBlind Web Search: How far are we from a privacy preserving search engine?
Recent rapid progress in fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) and somewhat homomorphic encryption (SHE) has catalyzed renewed efforts to develop efficient privacy preserving protocols. Several works have already appeared in the literature that provide solutions to these problems by employing FHE or SHE techniques. In this work, we focus on a natural application where privacy is a major concern: w...
متن کاملA Fully Homomorphic Encryption Scheme a Dissertation Submitted to the Department of Computer Science and the Committee on Graduate Studies of Stanford University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy
We propose the first fully homomorphic encryption scheme, solving a central open problem in cryptography. Such a scheme allows one to compute arbitrary functions over encrypted data without the decryption key – i.e., given encryptions E(m1), . . . , E(mt) of m1, . . . , mt, one can efficiently compute a compact ciphertext that encrypts f(m1, . . . ,mt) for any efficiently computable function f ...
